September - 1983

Summer.....Gardens.....Two Head Roping.....Halloween Dance

I can only think of two things that will make this summer worth remembering... one is that our government did not put a embargo against importing Canadian Mist.. and the other is that our 1960 Air Conditioner did not choose the summer of "83" in which to die... in other words, this summer has been the pits... extra dry... extra hot... the weather most certainly affects people and their dispositions.  Those who are normally very placid, have been seen pulling the wings off of butterflies... those who are never very placid, have been seen shooting them out of the air with shot guns... to even mention the word garden, is to invite a look of hostility normally saved for swastikas or rowdy kids... and why not??... out of $65.00 worth of seeds and plants, we harvested one pint of beets and a few tomatoes that cost us at least a dollar a piece... it is depressing that no rain won't kill the creeping green vines that grow wild in the arena and at the same time ruin 16 rows of sweet corn that tasseled out at 18.5 inches... not to mention pickle seeds that were petrified in their hills & pumpkin seeds that could be recycled if you could retrieve them from the three inch cracks that run between what was supposed to be green beans and mango plants... but, I believe that everything that goes around, comes around and it will rain again... if not before, then most certainly on Oct. 9th... that's our next roping... what the heck, no one promised me a rose garden...

The Shop.... Lots of fall things coming in... the new down coats... leather...men's suits... ladies fashion boots... just to name a few... we have a good layaway plan... do come and pick out soon.

What's Coming Show..... Sept. 17 & 18 display at the pork festival... Sept. 15th out door dressage show... Oct. 9th 2head calf roping & barrels.. Oct. 6th six family yard sale... Nov. 19th Dressage clinic... Nov. 20th Dressage show finals.

It is with much sadness that I tell you that our long time friend and roper Benny Camp, died on Sept., 7th of Leukemia... I would expect that he, Tommy and Billy are by now roping calves some where..   The hardest part of watching the years fly, is saying goodbye to your friends.

Mark your calendar now.... for June 15th, 16th and 17th 1984... It will be the shops 25th birthday and we are going to have the biggest old time reunion that we can put together... you'll be hearing more later... but save those dates... 4 head average on the roping and barrels... trophy saddles... dance...two bands... and much more.

Come see us when you can...

Sincerely,

Joan
